Keep track of your group, every kilometre of the journey.
See where every rider, hiker and runner is in real time. Built for organisers leading group rides, club hikes and trail events — without the WhatsApp pings.
Run safer, smoother events.
Whether you're leading 8 friends on a Sunday gravel loop or 200 riders through the Dolomites, Live Tracking gives you one place to see your whole group.
Everyone on one map
See every participant's live position next to your planned route. No more "where are you?" texts at the next junction.
Spot stragglers early
Pace, distance and last-seen time per rider — so you know when to slow the front group or send a sweeper back.
Peace of mind, by default
Tracking ends when the tour ends. Friends and family can follow a private link — never public, never indexed.
One dashboard for your whole group.
Open the Tour Dashboard from the planner or the app. Each participant shows up as a coloured dot on your route, with name, pace and how far behind the leader they are.
Join with a link. Ride with the group.
Send a single invite — over WhatsApp, email or QR code at the start line. Riders tap once, the route loads on their phone, and they're in the live group.
A spectator link for friends and family.
Share one read-only link so partners, kids or club members can follow the tour from the sofa. The link expires automatically when the ride ends.
Set up an event in three steps.
From planning the route to seeing everyone home — Live Tracking lives inside the komoot you already use.
Plan & share the route
Build the tour in the komoot Planner like you always do. Toggle Live Tracking on — a join link and QR code appear.
Riders join in one tap
Drop the link in your group chat or print the QR for the start line. Participants tap, give location permission once, and they're in.
Lead with the dashboard
Open the Tour Dashboard on your phone or laptop. Watch the group, send pings, regroup at the café — all from one screen.
Made for the rides you actually lead.
Live Tracking is in beta with komoot Pioneers and a handful of clubs and event teams. We're rolling it out carefully — get in touch and we'll set you up.
Weekly group rides
Keep the A, B and C groups together when they split. See who took the long way home.
Multi-day club hikes
Track the group across hut-to-hut traverses. Day-by-day reset, one shared route.
Sportives & fundraisers
Marshalls see every rider, families follow along, you get a finish-line summary.
A few things organisers ask.
How does the live tracking actually work?
Each participant uses the komoot app on their phone, which transmits their GPS position in real time. Friends and family can follow any participant from a simple browser link, with no app download or account required on their end. The organiser sees all participants on a single map through the Tour Dashboard.
What does each participant need?
Just the komoot app on their phone (iOS or Android) and the join link you share with them. When they tap the link, the route loads automatically and tracking starts. komoot Premium is activated for free for the duration of the event. No extra hardware, no dongles, no separate tracker.
What tools does the organiser get?
You get access to the Tour Dashboard, where you see every participant's live position on the route map. For each rider you can see pace, distance covered, and time since last update. You can send messages to the whole group or specific participants: weather updates, safety alerts, route changes, regroup pings. After the event, you get a full summary with GPX files and stats for every participant.
Do all participants need a komoot account?
Yes. All participants need a komoot account to join a Live Tracking session. Signing up is free and takes less than a minute — they can do it right when they tap the join link.
What happens to battery life?
Live Tracking uses the same low-power location pipeline as komoot's recording — typically around 6–8% battery per hour with the screen off. Long events run fine on a small power bank.
What visibility does my event get on komoot?
Live Tracking is a pure operational tool. Your event is not listed publicly on komoot and there is no advertising or promotional placement involved. The tracking session, the join link and the spectator link are all private. You are free to co-brand communications to your participants however you like.
Is there a limit on group size?
There's no fixed cap on event size. A single tour runs comfortably with several hundred active participants, and larger events are absolutely possible: think 500+ on a single route, or thousands of riders split across multiple routes and start waves. Get in touch early and we'll plan the rollout with you.
Can I export the event afterwards?
Yes. After the tour ends you get a summary with each participant's GPX, distance, moving time and elevation — handy for club newsletters, race timing or just bragging rights.
How is location data handled?
Live positions are visible only to the organiser and to people with the spectator link. Tracking stops when the tour ends, and live data is removed shortly after — only the finished tour summary is kept.
What happens if a participant has no signal?
No problem. When someone loses signal their last known position stays visible on the map, and their location updates automatically as soon as their phone regains signal or connection — so they're never lost for good, even on more off-grid routes.
