    Berlin State Opera
The Berlin State Opera is an opera house located at Unter den Linden 7, in the Mitte district of Berlin, and part of the Forum Fridericianum. Built between 1741 and 1743 by order of Frederick the Great, based on plans by Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff in the Frederickian Rococo style, it was rebuilt by Richard Paulick between 1951 and 1955 after being destroyed in World War II. It is the oldest opera house in Berlin and the "first significant theater ever to be built as a monumental, free-standing structure in a city."

Towards the end of the 19th century, the opera house achieved international fame thanks to conductors such as Joseph Sucher, Felix von Weingartner and Karl Muck, and later Richard Strauss and Leo Blech. After the collapse of the Empire, the opera was renamed the “Staatsoper Unter den Linden” in 1918, and the “Royal Chapel” became the “Kapelle der Staatsoper”. In the 1920s, conductors such as Wilhelm Furtwängler, Erich Kleiber, Otto Klemperer, Alexander von Zemlinsky and Bruno Walter were at the podium.

The Staatsoper Unter den Linden, also known as the Linden Opera, is the historically most important opera house in Berlin. It was built between 1741 and 1743 on behalf of the Prussian King Friedrich II by the architect von Knobelsdorff. The house is since its inauguration 1742 home of the Staatskapelle Berlin.
