Also a nice hike, for the children especially thanks to the farm on the way and the cute puppies, but also the dried up river :) But it was very exhausting at the end! Very steep. But our 4-year-old made it too :) Then after the hut we went back to the puppies!
A nice hike, but not so easy …

Is the Climb to Rifugio Treviso trail suitable for beginners or families?

The trail is generally rated as moderate, requiring a good level of fitness and sure-footedness. While there's mention of an easier, shorter option (around 8.3 km with 554 meters ascent, mostly through woods) suitable for various abilities, the main route involves steeper forest paths. Families with younger children or beginners should consider their fitness levels and perhaps opt for the easier variations.

What kind of terrain and scenery can I expect on the trail?

Expect to walk through expansive larch and fir forests, alongside flowing brooks, and across lush meadows and alpine pastures. As you gain elevation, you'll be treated to spectacular views of the Dolomite peaks of the Pale di San Martino, including Cima Canali and Cima Wilma. The Val Canali itself is renowned for its beauty.

What is the best time of year to hike to Rifugio Treviso?

The main hut at Rifugio Treviso operates from mid-June to late September, and on weekends starting May 1st. This period, particularly late spring through early autumn, offers the most favorable weather conditions for hiking. During these months, you'll find the trails clear of snow and the rifugio open for services.

Where can I park to access the Climb to Rifugio Treviso trail?

While specific parking details for this exact trailhead aren't provided, trails in Val Canali typically have designated parking areas. It's advisable to check local signage or park information for the Val Canali area, often near the start of popular routes or access points to the Canali Alpine Hut or Villa Welsperg, which houses the visitor center for the Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino Nature Park.

Is the trail dog-friendly?

Generally, dogs are allowed on trails in the Dolomites, but it's crucial to keep them on a leash, especially within protected areas like the Parco Naturale Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino, to protect wildlife and ensure the safety of other hikers.
